A 100Km, long 36 Inch diameter crude oil pipeline in the Canadian Praries needed to be cleaned to safety and effectivily abandon the section of line and replace it with a new section of pipe. The pigging company approached Evergreen Solutions to find a safe and effective chemical solution to remove the sludge deposits in the line. The chemical had to accelerate the cleaning, be compatible, and effective enough to reduce the flush water hydrocarbons to <100ppm.
Evergreen was able to recommend a checmical formula that was compatible with the client's selected polymer steel body magnetic single directional cleaning pigs, and provide cleaning results which correspond to CSA Z662 abandonment classification. Further, it met the requirements of not reacting with CSA Z662 abandonment corrosion migration strategy, such as: Internal 5-10 PSI N2 Blanket and External Cathodic Protection. The chemical also supports the fire migration plan in place for the site.
Evergreen Solutions was able to reduce the Hydrocarbon content in the flush water to below 100ppm, well belore the targeted 100ppm, exceeding expectations. The chemical program helped to reduce the amount of retention time needed and the project was completed earlier than expected while meeting all the requirements for the site.
