Pipeline Operator Eliminates Risk of Spontaneous Combustion Using TSER PFS

CHALLENGE

A 28 km sour pipeline in Southern Alberta was being cleaned for internal integrity inspection. Due to the sour service, there was significant pyrophoric iron sulfide accumulation on the pipewall, increasing the risk of fire by exposing the iron sulfide to oxygen. The pigging company approached Evergreen Solutions to help them avoid the possibility of a fire when the pig receiver was opened, exposing the iron sulfide to oxygen.

Solution

Evergreen Solutions recommended the addition of TSER PFS to a 500 L water pill to deal with the iron sulfide.

Results

TSER PFS at the recommended dosage was effective in eliminating the combustion and fire risk to the customer when the pig receiver valve was opened. Evergreen Solutions was able to help eliminate the fire hazard on this project and reduce planning and costs for future projects.
